Ebru art work

Ebru is a traditional Turkish art of water marbling. It started centuries ago in Asia Minor and became popular in Turkey. It was used in book binding and as a background for official papers- to avoid any falsification of the documents!

The technique uses water mixed with carrageenan to enhance its viscosity, natural pigments usually found in the earth and ox gall to help the pigments transfer to the paper. Also, rose twigs and horsehair brushes are used to sprinkle the paints which are then made into various designs using combs and other tools.
